What do Dakota Fanning, Katy Perry and Helen Mirren have in common? Until Sunday’s BAFTA awards in London, not a whole lot, but Mirren’s bright new do put them all in a rarefied group of stars who have rocked pink hair.

“I saw it on America’s Next Top Model, so I decided to have a go,” Mirren, 67, told reporters of her tress inspiration. The cotton-candy hue highlighted her brand-new choppy pixie cut, which she showed off to great effect in a white crew-neck Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown with floral embroidery. “I know I won’t win tonight,” she said of her best actress nomination for Hitchcock, “but I’m going to have lots of fun and celebrate anyway.”

Though we’re used to the star’s bold fashion choices, her colorful locks (rumored to be temporary) still managed to surprise us — if only because we’d bet she’s the first-ever Dame Commander of the British Empire to sport a pastel pink pixie.

Tell us: What do you think of Mirren’s new do?

Amanda Beard Pregnant Second Child
Sacha Brown

Amanda Beard is set to welcome a new addition to the pool.

The seven-time Olympic medalist and her husband, photographer Sacha Brown, are expecting their second child in July, Beard tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“We are so excited to add to our family! During my first pregnancy, I was sick the whole time and felt awful,” the swimmer, 31, tells PEOPLE.

“So far this pregnancy has been a lot easier. I’ve only been sick a couple of times and I have way more energy.”

Also delighted by the news is soon-to-be big brother Blaise Ray, 3.

“He’s so excited. He keeps telling me how he is going to hug and kiss the baby and help me take care of [him or her],” says Beard.

She jokingly adds, “We will see if that actually happens!”

Beard won two gold, four silver and one bronze during her career and is a four-time Olympian. Currently sponsored by Aqua Sphere, she is also the author of the memoir In the Water They Can’t See You Cry.

She and Brown were married in May 2009 on Wakatobi, an archipelago in the Banda Sea off southeastern Indonesia.

Prison Inmates Save Three Boys from Drowning

Nelson Pettis, Larry Bohn and Jon Fowler

KPTV

When three inmates were assigned to clean up a park near their Yacolt, Wash. minimum security corrections facility, they had no idea how important that day's community service would be.

While finishing up their work, Nelson Pettis, 37, Larry Bohn, 29, and Jon Fowler, 29, heard children's screams coming from the nearby creek. Rushing to the water's edge, they saw three young boys struggling to keep their heads above water.

The children's small canoe had capsized, dumping the boys into the cold, 25-mph current, which was rushing towards the Washington River.

"It was raging pretty fast," Pettis told the local KPTV news station. "They were really scared."

He and Bohn didn't think twice, leaping into the water to grab the boys – later identified as brothers ages 8, 10 and 16 – carrying them to a small island, where they awaited emergency rescue. "They kept telling us, 'Thank you, thank you,' " Bohn told reporters.

Fowler, who remained on land and helped emergency crews blow up an inflatable raft and bring the group back to shore, told reporters that while some may find their actions surprising, "We did what any good person would do."

The men took off their shirts to wrap up the shivering boys, all of whom were taken to the hospital for mild hypothermia.

Prison authorities say the men involved are all serving time for non-violent crimes.

"Just because we're incarcerated doesn't mean we're bad people," Fowler told reporters. "We made some bad choices in our lives, but we're still just like everybody else."

Miley Cyrus: Why I'll 'Never' Have Long Hair Again

Hope you weren’t too attached to Miley Cyrus‘s long hair, because she has a message for you: “I could never see myself having long, long hair again.”

“I’m feeling it!” the star tells E! News of her close crop. “My fiancé [Liam Hemsworth] loves it. It’s so much easier to go shave the sides once a week, rather than getting your roots done and all this stuff.”

And it’s not just that she prefers the low maintenance of her new do: she actually hates the way she looks with long locks. “I do not like looking back at [photos of my long hair],” she says. “I wish somebody would have ripped those [extensions] out of my head. I do not miss that in any way.”

Though we initially found the chop surprising, it’s definitely growing on us (no pun intended) — and we love that Cyrus keeps finding new, fun ways to style her shorter do. Tell us: Do you love Cyrus’s awesome attitude about her hair as much as we do?

Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway & More Share Oscar Dress Hints

The countdown to the Academy Awards has officially begun, and so has the buzz around what the nominees will be wearing.

Nominated actresses shared their gown plans with reporters at a Beverly Hills luncheon in their honor Monday.

Though Jennifer Lawrence joked, "I'm going to wear sweatpants," it turns out just the opposite is true. "Last time was comfort. This year, I'm like, 'Suck it up, wear a corset,'" she said. "I am going to go for fashion this time."

Last year, before donning her skintight red Calvin Klein Collection number, "I ate a Philly cheesesteak and fries, and I was like 'This is definitely going to help,'" she said. "It didn't, 'cause I had to double-Spanx it."

Another star eyeing extra Spanx? Anne Hathaway, who said she couldn't start preparing for a very important reason: "It was the Super Bowl! I couldn't think about dresses with all that delicious fried food around!"

Though she did say she's looking at some "cool options," let's hope they're all more drama-free than her Giambattista Valli SAG dress, which she revealed had a broken zipper – but her "magician" stylist made it work anyway.

The Master's Amy Adams was tight-lipped about her pick for the Oscars, allowing only that it will be "a dress! No girl ever tells you. Has any girl ever gotten up here and said, 'I'm wearing this designer and it will be this color?' " she teased.

But Jessica Chastain was a bit more forthcoming about her plans, saying, "I'm going to go for something that's perhaps colorful."

Her reasoning: "Most little girls dream about their wedding dresses, but I always dreamed about my Oscar dress – maybe because I like color!" Also on her wish list for the gown: "I love fashion that celebrates a woman's body [and] maybe is a throwback to the glamour of Old Hollywood, that silhouette, but somehow making it modern."

Harry Styles Celebrates 19th Birthday with a Stripper

Harry Styles

Weir Photos/Splash News Online

It was just more than a month ago that Harry Styles was helping then-girlfriend Taylor Swift celebrate her birthday with a quiet trip to rural northern England.

But now that he's single, the One Direction hunk opted for a less low-key celebration to mark his 19th birthday. And instead of hanging out with a girlfriend, he got up close and personal with a very, very different lady: a stripper.

Hitting a London club for a Friday night celebration with his friends, including bandmate Niall Horan, the racy rendezvous was a gift from Radio 1's DJ Nick "Grimmy" Grimshaw. And it was more ridiculous than racy, Styles tells the U.K.'s Sun.

"It was great," he said. "I was in stitches – it was really funny."

Added Horan on Twitter: "Was a right laugh."

In character as a cop, his birthday present gave him a lap dance, reports The Sun, before playfully arresting him. Adding to the hilarity: "The funniest part was that when she finished she said, 'I'm really sorry. I couldn't find my truncheon, so I had to bring my nunchucks.' That was a bit weird," he said.

But the festivities weren't quite as X-rated as it sounds. "She stripped down to her underwear," according to Styles, "but unfortunately there was a no-nudity policy in the bar."

The teen idol partied until 3 a.m. before heading to a friend's house. "Put it this way – it was a long day," he said. "We had two nights on the trot, but you have to on your birthday, don't you?"

Just in time!

Now that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting her first child, she won’t have to search hard to recreate some of her famous pre-pregnancy looks.

The beautiful navy silk Issa London dress the 31-year-old wore during her engagement announcement in November 2010 is now available for moms-to-be at UK maternity boutique, Blossom Mother and Child.

Part of the store’s new stock of the Issa spring 2013 collection, the classic and flattering wrap gown ($870) is perfect because it “can be worn during and after pregnancy” according to a representative from Blossom Mother and Child.

For several years, “we’ve worked closely with the designer to bring their designs to expectant women.”

Next up on Kate’s maternity style list? We’re betting Alexander McQueen.

When the brand’s creative director, Sarah Burton (she designed Kate’s wedding dress), was made an Officer of the British Empire for her services in fashion, the soon to be mom-of-two shared that she’s eager to create maternity pieces for the Duchess. “I hope I will be.”

Last gift I bought
My wife [Kyra Sedgwick] always wanted a bathtub. So I secretly had one put in our New York home. Every time she takes a bath now, she tells me, "Thank you so much, honey. I just had the greatest bath!"

Last time I took public transportation
I take the subway every day. It's the fastest way to get around the city. When I'm on the train, I play Solitaire, Angry Birds and Backgammon on my phone.

Last time I said, "I love you"
Twenty minutes ago. Every time I go up to my wife and kids [Travis, 23, and Sosie, 20], I say it. It's a really good feeling to tell them I care.

Last time I cried
I saw Life of Pi and cried four times. I was knocked out by it. I'm not afraid to show my emotions. I'll cry and let it all out and not be embarrassed.

Mariah Carey Stomach
Dave Spencer/Splash News Online

Who: Mariah Carey

Where: Enjoying the unseasonably warm weather in N.Y.C. Wednesday

Diagnosis: All symptoms indicate that Carey has taken Throwback Thursday too literally and believes it’s 1997. Her outfit suffers from time warp hallucinations, unnecessarily bare midriff and mermaid-skirt-itis. This is a particularly serious case, believed to be more toxic than Glitter.

Prescription: Keep the awesome leather jacket and diva shades, then incinerate everything else and start from scratch. A relaxed, flattering pink A-line dress will allow her to still show a little skin in an elegant way. We’ll prescribe a healthy dose of on-trend single-sole heels to combat the diva’s longterm platform pump addiction, but unfortunately, it may be too late to save her.

Tell us: How would you cure Mariah Carey’s outfit?

Randy Houser and Son Bond over Bedtime Routine

It’s been a big week for singer Randy Houser: Within days of releasing his new album How Country Feels, the title track is already steady at the top of the charts.

But the country crooner isn’t the only one putting his powerhouse voice on display. According to Houser, his 10-month-old son West has also been busy exercising his vocal chords.

“The biggest thing he’s doing right now is hollering ‘Dada,’” Houser, 36, tells PEOPLE.

Already planning for his family’s future on the road, the doting dad is looking forward to the day he can bring his baby boy on tour — after he can secure a bigger bus.

“Right now there are 11 guys on the bus so it makes it hard to bring a baby on the road,” he explains.

But while he waits for his dad to accommodate his growing entourage, West is working hard at home meeting his milestones.

“He’s pulling up on everything,” Houser shares. “He also learned to crawl. He can pretty much get on his horsey [toy] by himself.”

And although West has formed an incredibly strong bond with his mama, Jessa Lee, the new dad admits he prefers to tackle baby boy’s bedtime routine on his own.

“My favorite thing is to rock him at nighttime when he’s going to bed,” he says.

Taye Diggs Chases Down Home Invader After SAG Awards

01/28/2013 at 04:30 PM EST

A quick note to any salesmen hoping to unload a home security system on Private Practice star Taye Diggs: He doesn't need one.

Last night, after returning to his Los Angeles home from the Screen Actors Guild Awards with his wife Idina Menzel at 11:20 p.m., Diggs discovered a burglar in his garage. The intruder – first reported on by TMZ and later identified as Hassan Juma, 20 – attempted to flee, but didn't get very far.

"The suspect tried to run away, but [Diggs] chased him down the street was able to detain him until police arrived," LAPD spokesman Richard French tells PEOPLE. "At this time, I don't know exactly what he did to the suspect to detain him."

Juma was arrested, charged with burglary and is currently in custody. Bail has been set at $50,000.

Diggs's crime-fighting exploits capped off a busy evening for the actor. Earlier in the night, he and Cougar Town actress Busy Philipps handed out the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series to Claire Danes for her role in Homeland.

At the after-party following the awards ceremony, Diggs and wife Menzel ripped it up on the dance floor to the beats of DJ Paesche.

Ashton Kutcher Parties in Sundance After jOBS Premiere

01/26/2013 at 01:50 PM EST

Ashton Kutcher's much-hyped movie jOBS premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, and the star was on hand – minus girlfriend Mila Kunis – for all the festivities.

Kutcher was one of the first to arrive at the official after party, hosted by Nur Khan Presents NK on Main Street for the cast and filmmakers and sponsored by Red Touch Media.

Kutcher was captivated by a floor-to-ceiling portrait of late Apple visionary Steve Jobs, whom Kutcher portrays in the film. Guests were quick to snap a photo of the actor admiring the subject of his role.

Without Kunis by his side, Kutcher very much remained a one-man guy, focusing his attention all night on his table of male friends and colleagues and posing for pictures with fans, according to an observer. The pride he takes in jOBS was palpable, as Kutcher was incredibly excited to chat about his film and role with all the guests who came up to greet him.

Co-star Ahna O'Reilly spent the evening in a very social mood, dancing to the beats of DJ Cash and catching up with co-star Josh Gad. Not to live down his "funny man" persona, Gad went into the evening entertaining all the guests and causing an uproar of laughter with Kutcher and O'Reilly while catching up about filming and their time at Sundance.

Screen Actors Guild Menu Focuses on Fresh, Local Food

01/25/2013 at 04:35 PM EST

How do you satisfy Hollywood's biggest stars – people with discerning palates, often strict diets and tight dresses?

That is the task before Los Angeles-based celebrity chef Suzanne Goin, who will cook up a seasonal, tasty meal for the A-listers attending Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

"The challenge in this case is having that one plate that has three different dishes on it that need to all really work together," says Goin, who previewed the SAG Awards menu last week at her West Hollywood restaurant Lucques. "How do I do that? I use the produce and vegetables that are the most beautiful."

And Goin also keeps the occasion firmly in mind. "I want the plate to be festive and have a party feeling to it the way the awards actually do," adds the chef, who uses all seasonal and local ingredients from farmers she works with all year round. "These awards really feel like a party."

The calorie-conscious menu gives guests two choices. The vegetarian option includes a plate with a salad of beets, blood oranges, feta cheese and black olives; a serving of curried cauliflower, couscous and pomegranate salsa; and a hearty salad of farro with kale, young broccoli, currants and pine nuts.

The non-veggie plate includes melt-in-your-mouth slow roasted salmon with green rice and edible flowers; sliced beef tenderloin with horseradish cream; and the same tangy salad of beets and blood oranges.

Goin, who describes herself as nervous by nature when it comes to cooking for such a high-profile event, says the toughest part is the last 48 hours before the event. Because everything is made fresh, she and her staff "can't really cook until the last minute," she says. "The end is a real push and a crunch. ... But when you're done, it's the happiest moment."

Roasted Beets & Blood Oranges with Feta and Black Olives

Ingredients
• 3 bunches of small to medium beets
• ¾ cup extra virgin olive oil
• 5 large blood oranges
• 2 tbsp. finely diced shallots
• 1 tsp. red wine vinegar
• 1 tbsp. lemon juice
• ½ cup Nyons olives of other strong-tasting oil-cured black olives, pitted
• 2 oz. arugula
• ¼ pound feta cheese
• Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 450
2. Cut the greens off beets, leaving about ½-inch of the stem still attached. Clean the beets well and toss them with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of salt. Place the beets in a roasting pan with a splash of water in the bottom. Cover the pan tightly with foil and roast the beats about 40 minutes or until they're tender when pierced. When they're done, carefully remove the foil. Let cool and peel the beets by slipping off the skins with your fingers. Slice the beets into wedges and place in a large bowl.
3. Slice the stem and ends off four of the blood oranges. Stand them on one end and, following the contour of the fruit with your knife, remove the peel and white cottony pith. Work from the top and bottom, rotating the fruit as you go. Slice each orange thinly into 8 to 10 pinwheels.
4. Squeeze juice from remaining blood orange and reserve a ¼ cup for the vinaigrette.
5. Combine the diced shallot, vinegar, lemon juice, ¼ cup blood orange juice and ½ teaspoon salt in a small bowl, and let it sit 5 minutes. Whisk in remaining ½ cup olive oil and taste for seasoning.
6. Toss the beats with ¾ of the vinaigrette and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. Taste for seasoning. Gently toss in the olives and arugula.
7. Arrange half the salad on a platter. Tuck half the blood oranges in and around the beets and scatter half of the feta on top. Place the rest of the salad on top and nestle the remaining blood oranges into the salad and sprinkle the remaining feta on top.

Jenna Fischer Cried Tears of Joy over John Krasinski's Office Casting

01/24/2013 at 04:50 PM EST

Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski

Jason LaVeris/Filmmagic

It was love at first audition for Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski.

Fischer who plays Pam to Krasinski's Jim on The Office, isn't sure their characters would have become the fan-favorites they are if he hadn't been chosen to play her husband.

"I was paired up with John often and I thought this was good because he was my favorite Jim," Fischer, 38, explains on Thursday's episode of The Jeff Probst Show, says of the final round of eight actors – four Pams and four Jims.

"On the second day, John whispered to me, 'You're my favorite Pam. I hope you get it.' "

Needless to say, when the actress heard the news about her newly-casted costar, she was overjoyed.

"When they called me and said I got the role, I said, 'Who's Jim – did you cast John Krasinski?' " Fischer says. "They said, 'Yes' and I started crying because I knew it would be good. And I mean this honestly – I can't do Pam without him. In the way you need the right partner to have a great marriage, I needed the right costar to have this relationship.”

Getting the role that skyrocketed Fischer's career may indirectly be thanks to Alyson Hannigan, who – for once – didn't try out for the same part.

"I had been knocking around Los Angeles for about eight years going to various auditions. I would do eight auditions for a new television show and then at the very end they would offer the role to Alyson Hannigan," the actress admits.

"She was my biggest competition … I would get to the final audition and I'd go, 'I know I've got this one.' And then she'd walk in the door and I'd go, 'Nope.' "

Now that it's the beginning of the end for The Office – Thursday's episode will reveal the secrets behind the documentary crew filming at Dunder Mifflin all these years – can Fischer share any behind-the-scenes scoop?

"Around the holidays we do our online Christmas shopping. Phyllis [Smith] is hilarious – she pays her bills online, in the background," the actress reveals. "She brings in these stacks of papers and you see her over there, clicking on her bank. She's just paying bills."
